Requirements for IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for Workgroups, or IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC
You must make sure that the minimum hardware and software requirements are met.
Before installing IBM® Spectrum LSF® Suite for Workgroups, or IBM Spectrum
LSF Suite for HPC ensure
that your environment meets the following prerequisites:
- A computing environment that consists of two or more machines
- A management node that has at least one network interface
- A supported operating system that is preinstalled on the management node
- Access to the operating system media or image file that is used for installation of the operating system on all nodes in the cluster
- Compute nodes that can be set to boot over network
Hardware requirements
Before you install IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for Workgroups, or IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC, you must make sure that minimum hardware requirements are met.
Minimum hardware requirements
for the management node:
- 100 GB free disk space
- 4 GB of physical memory (RAM)
- At least one configured Ethernet interface.
Minimum hardware requirements
for stateful compute nodes:
- 1 GB of physical memory (RAM) for compute node
- 40 GB of free disk space
- One Ethernet interface
Minimum hardware requirements
for stateless compute nodes:
- 8 GB of physical memory (RAM) for x86 and PowerBE compute nodes or 32 GB of physical memory (RAM) for PowerLE compute nodes
- One Ethernet interface
Optional
hardware can be configured before the installation:
- Additional Ethernet interfaces for connecting to other networks
- Additional BMC interfaces
- Additional interconnects for high-performance message passing, such as InfiniBand
Note: IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for Workgroups, or IBM Spectrum
LSF Suite for HPC installation
on an NFS server is not supported.
Software requirements
The following operating systems are supported depending on hardware type.

High availability
High availability must be enabled during IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for Workgroups, or IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC installation. High availability cannot be enabled after LSF cluster creation. Before starting IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for Workgroups, or IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC installation, see high availability requirements at High availability requirements.
