Installing and upgrading a license server silently

You can install or upgrade a license server from IBM® Installation Manager graphical user interface.

Before you begin

  • You can install a license server from the installation media or from a download package that is on the IBM Passport Advantage® site. Before you begin the installation, obtain the installation media or download the installation package.
  • Verify that your computer meets the system requirements, and complete the pre-installation tasks.
  • Make sure that you have administrator access to the server.
  • Make sure that the application server is connected to the database and license servers.
  • Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet.
Note: If you are upgrading the License Key Server from 8.1.6 or earlier to v 9.0, you might encounter a warning message similar to, "The IBM License Key Server package does not support one of more of the translations that are selected for the IBM Rational RLKS package group. For unsupported translations, the language that is used by the package is either the language that is used for the operating system or English" . This warning message is caused by the difference in the way translations are installed in the new version release, and can be safely ignored. Support for the translated languages remain the same in v9.0.

Procedure

To install or upgrade Installation Manager and a license server silently:

  1. Create a response file that contains the commands and inputs for the installation process.
  2. Open a command prompt and change to the following directory: InstallerImage_platform.
    For example: cd C:\LKS\disk1\InstallerImage_win32_win32_x86
  3. Enter the installation command.
    • On Windows systems: installc.exe -acceptLicense input response_file_path_and_name -log log_file_path_and_name
    • On Linux® systems:/installc -acceptLicense input response_file_path_and_name -log log_file_path_and_name
Note: The commands can change based on the version of Installation Manager. For more information, see the IBM Installation Manager documentation.
