Creating, modifying, and archiving LDAP chargeback groups

You can run departmental chargeback reports based on groups in LDAP. Follow these steps to create, modify, and archive your chargeback groups.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that you configured your License Key Server Administration and Reporting Tool to use the LDAP user management.
  • Only the person who created the chargeback group can modify or archive it.
  • You must be a user with the admin role or the chargeback role.
  • The user details that are provided in the LDAP configuration page must have the required privilege to search for users and groups in the LDAP.
  • Configure the rate per unit for your product licenses.
  • Reports that are run after you create or modify groups contain all of the data that has been created since you created or modified the groups. For example, if you create a group on January 1 at 9:00 am, the report contains license usage data starting January 1 at 9:00 am and onwards. For more information, see the technical note.

Creating LDAP chargeback groups

Procedure

  1. Log on to the web client as a user with the admin role or the chargeback role.
  2. Go to the Settings page.
  3. Click the Chargeback tab, and then click Create a chargeback group.
  4. Click LDAP.
  5. In the Name field, type a unique name to identify the group. This name must be unique across all of your existing LDAP-based groups and custom groups.

The maximum length is 50 characters, and the name cannot contain any of these special characters:

    # ? = + $ % , & | " * < > : /

  6. In the LDAP group baseDN field, verify that the information is correct for the base DN from which the LDAP groups need to be searched.

The information that is contained in this field is based on your LDAP configuration.

  7. In the Description field, type a description of the group.
  8. In the LDAP user attribute name field, type the LDAP user attribute name that is used in the license server log file.

For more information about the LDAP user attribute name, see the technical document.

  9. In the LDAP groups section, search, select, and add at least one LDAP group to the Selected LDAP groups section.

The maximum number of groups that are displayed is 250. If necessary, refine your search parameters to search a smaller subset.

  10. Optionally, in the Advanced section, provide an LDAP attribute filter to further filter the users.
  11. Click Export Users to test your settings.

A text file opens and displays a list of user names. The users are searched from within the User Base DN that is specified on the LDAP Configuration page. If necessary, modify the parameters. When the parameters are correct, proceed to the next step.

  12. Click Save.

License Key Server Administration and Reporting Tool automatically retrieves the updated information from the LDAP server. Depending on the size of your group, this process can take several minutes.

  13. Optionally, click Export Users, and then verify the read only list of users.
  14. Now you are ready to create a report definition so that you can run your reports.
