Working with resources
These example tasks illustrate how you can manage resources using the CICS Explorer®. You must be connected to a CICS® Transaction Server for z/OS® version 4 or later to edit or perform actions against resources. CICS and CICSPlex® SM resources are displayed in resource views. Each resource view displays a single type of resource, for example the File view displays only file resources and the Program Definition view displays only program definition resources.
- Adding resource definitions to a group
This example task shows you how to use IBM® CICS Explorer to add one or more CICS resource definitions to a group. - Browsing and editing resources
When you are connected to your CICSplex or CICS system, you can view and edit the system resources. If you are connected to a CICS system, the resources displayed in the views are the resources in that system. If you are connected to a CICSplex, the resources displayed in the views depend on the browse scope that is set. - Copying and pasting resource definitions
You can use the copy and paste function to add one or more BAS resource definitions to a different resource group, copy one or more CICS resource definitions into a new or existing CSD group, or copy existing BAS or CSD groups into a list. - Copying and pasting resource data to a spreadsheet
You can use the copy and paste function to copy resource data and paste it into a spreadsheet, or save the data as a comma-separated variable (csv) file. - Creating resources
You use the New wizard in CICS Explorer to create resource definitions that can then be installed in one or more active CICS systems. You enter the basic details needed to create the resource using the New wizard and then add additional information using the editor. You must be connected to a CICS Version 4 or later system to create CICS resource definitions. - CSD groups and lists
In a CICS CSD file, groups provide a method of collecting related resources together, while lists contain a list of groups that CICS installs at an initial or cold start. You can use CICS Explorer with a CICS TS Version 4 or later system to view groups, lists, and their contents in an individual CICS CSD file. - Enabling and disabling resources
This example task shows you how to use IBM CICS Explorer to enable or disable a resource. - Loading a new copy of a program or document template
This example task shows you how to use IBM CICS Explorer to refresh a program or a document template with a new copy. - Navigating to related resources
You can navigate from one resource to other related resources, using the CICS Explorer. For example, from the Local Transaction view you can select a transaction, and open the related program in the editor for viewing or updating. - Performing actions against a resource
You can use CICS Explorer to perform actions against CICSPlex SM or CICS resources when you are connected to a CICS Version 4 or later system. The actions you can perform depend on the type of resource. - Transaction tracking
Transaction Tracking provides the capability to identify the relationships between tasks in an application as they flow across regions in a CICSplex in order to aid in auditing and problem determination. Functions are provided to locate specific tasks based on information in the point of origin, to find interrelated hung tasks, and to identify work initiated by non-CICS adapters (such as WebSphere® MQ). - Querying package sets
You can query PACKAGESET resources by platform, region type or application. - Updating resource definitions
You can use CICS Explorer to update a resource definition in a CICS Version 4 or later system. - Viewing the members in a resource group
This example task shows you how to use IBM CICS Explorer to view the members in a resource group. You can select each definition in the group and open the definition in its own editor. - Viewing system initialization (SIT) parameters
You can use CICS Explorer to discover and view information about system initialization (SIT) parameters and SIT overrides.
