Configuring managed processes
You can configure managed processes, which are started automatically by the ncp_ctrl process, by editing the $NCHOME/etc/precision/CtrlServices.cfg file and starting or restarting ncp_ctrl. You can choose which processes are started this way, and you can change the command line parameters.
Your changes take effect when the ncp_ctrl process is stopped and restarted. Your changes also persist if ncp_ctrl is later stopped and restarted. For this reason, starting managed processes using the $NCHOME/etc/precision/CtrlServices.cfg as described here is more robust than making inserts directly into the services.inTray database table.
You might only want to use a subset of the Network Manager functionality. For example, you might want to use Network Manager to discover your network and visualize the topology only. In this case you can configure the ncp_ctrl process so that it does not start the processes that monitor the network and perform root-cause analysis on network events.
To configure which processes are started automatically, perform the following steps:
- Back up your $NCHOME/etc/precision/CtrlServices.cfg file.
- Save a copy of the CtrlServices.cfg file with your domain name included in the filename, for example, CtrlServices.NCOMS.cfg.
- Edit the CtrlServices.MASTER.cfg file. For example, if you want to discover your network and visualize the topology only, you must delete or comment out the entries for ncp_g_event, ncp_poller, and ncp_virtualdomain processes from the CtrlServices.NCOMS.cfg file.
- Make any changes to the command line parameters that you want to use to start the processes.
- Start the ncp_ctrl process in the domain NCOMS.
