What's new in IMS Online Reorganization Facility

This topic summarizes the technical changes for this edition.

New and changed information is denoted by carets (Symbol that indicates the start of new or changed content and Symbol that indicates the end of new or changed content) at the beginning and end of the new or changed information. Editorial changes that have no technical significance are not noted.

Revision markers follow these general conventions:

  • Only technical changes are marked; style and grammatical changes are not marked.
  • If part of an element, such as a paragraph, syntax diagram, list item, task step, or figure is changed, the entire element is marked with revision markers, even though only part of the element might have changed.
  • If a topic is changed by more than 50%, the entire topic is marked with revision markers (so it might seem to be a new topic, even though it is not).

Revision markers do not necessarily indicate all the changes made to the information because deleted text and graphics cannot be marked with revision markers.

Description Related APARs
Reorganize databases with external logical relationships
Support online reorganization of databases that have external logical relationships.
In order to reorganize multiple databases in parallel, IMS Online Reorganization Facility initiates multiple subordinate address spaces. Each subordinate address space is a started task that executes the subordinate address space procedure named HRFSUB, so this procedure must be placed in your PROCLIB data set before running the reorganization job. Specify whether to allow read-only DL/I batch jobs to access the database
A new keyword, READON, has been added. You can use this keyword to specify whether to allow read-only DL/I batch jobs to access the database which the IMS Online Reorganization Facility job is processing. This enhancement enables IMS Online Reorganization Facility to minimize impacts to DL/I batch jobs during reorganization. For more information, see READON keyword.

Unload a database that has external logical relationships
IMS Online Reorganization Facility has been enhanced to support unloading HISAM, HIDAM, HDAM, SHISAM, PHDAM, and PHIDAM databases while the database remains online. PH10454
Reorganize encrypted VSAM databases
A new keyword, KEYLABEL, and a new base configuration parameter, LOGKYLBL, have been added. This enhancement enables IMS Online Reorganization Facility to reorganize encrypted VSAM databases and to dynamically allocate encrypted data sets for image copy and apply log. Support IMS management of ACBs
IMS Online Reorganization Facility has been enhanced to support the IMS management of ACBs.
