Planning for installation

Check the prerequisites on the web before you install Content Collector for SAP.

Content Collector for SAP requires at least one SAP system, one repository, a connector that Collector Server needs to communicate with a specific repository, and IBM® Content Navigator.

IBM Content Navigator is supplied with IBM Content Manager, Content Manager OnDemand, and FileNet® P8. For Tivoli® Storage Manager users, IBM Content Navigator is bundled with Content Collector for SAP.

For the most current hardware requirements and software requirements, refer to the IBM Software Product Compatibility Reports.

Content Collector for SAP supplies the following installation packages:
  • The base package, which can be installed on a Linux®, UNIX, or Windows 64-bit operating system. This package contains Collector Server and the features of Content Collector for SAP. Install it on a system that is reserved for Content Collector for SAP.
  • The add-ons package, which can be installed on a Windows 32-bit operating system or a Windows 64-bit operating system. This package contains the API that an external application must use to communicate with Content Collector for SAP. It also contains the custom actions that are necessary to integrate IBM Datacap and Content Collector for SAP. Install it on the system where your external application runs.

Both packages are supplied as compressed files, which you must extract before you can start with the installation. To extract the files on the Solaris operating environment, use GNU tar instead of tar to avoid the creation of a @LongLink file during the extraction.

The users who install the packages do not need any administrator rights.

Content Collector for SAP uses IBM Installation Manager for the installation of its packages and of any future updates to Content Collector for SAP 4.0. IBM Installation Manager 1.7.3 is part of the base and the add-on packages. It is installed with the packages unless IBM Installation Manager 1.7.3 or later already exists on your system.

You can install the installation packages in console mode, in GUI mode, or in silent mode.

For more information about IBM Installation Manager, refer to the IBM Installation Manager documentation.

You can install Content Collector for SAP 4.0 on the same system as Content Collector for SAP 2.2 or 3.0. Version 2.2 and 3.0 had to be installed by a user with administrator rights, whereas 4.0 is installed by a user without administrator rights. Therefore, if you installed several versions on a Windows system, remember the following information:
  • Always check the PATH environment variable on a command prompt before you start a Collector Server instance from the command prompt or before you start the daemon that is used by IBM Content Navigator. The path to the Content Collector for SAP version that you want to start an instance for, must always come first.
  • You cannot start Collector Server instances of different Content Collector for SAP versions as services on one system.
