Configuring MaxUserPort (Maximum user ports)

The MaxUserPort parameter sets the maximum number of user ports that TCP/IP can assign when an application requests an available user port from the system. You can adjust the value of this parameter to optimize network throughput. The MaxUserPort parameter applies only to the Windows® operating system.

The recommended value for the MaxUserPort parameter is 32768. The default values are between 1024 to 5000.

Restriction: When you configure IBM® WebSphere® Application Server for Windows NT®, you must specify values for the MaxUserPort and TcpTimedWaitDelay parameters.

To set the maximum user port value:

  1. From the command prompt, run regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters.
  3. Create a new key for REG_DWORD, and specify the name MaxUserPort.
  4. Enter the decimal value 32768.
  5. Restart the workstation.
