Rolling upgrade of Operational Decision Manager

To upgrade Operational Decision Manager from Vn to Vn+1 while keeping your existing system running, you can upgrade the system gradually, component by component. This process is known as a rolling upgrade.

Before you begin

To perform a rolling upgrade, you must be familiar with operating, deploying, and maintaining the system where Operational Decision Manager is installed, which includes installing the product and applying patches.

The older version is represented as Vn and the upgraded version is represented as Vn+1.

About this task

The sequence of the rolling upgrade might vary slightly depending on which version you are upgrading from. You might be able to skip some of the steps that are described in the general sequence because certain aspects of a component are identical between two versions.

  • Overview
    You can continue to provide Operational Decision Manager as a service while the software is being upgraded without shutting down the entire system. Each node is upgraded in turn, until all server nodes and all client nodes are upgraded. The rolling upgrade is complete when all components use the same version.

  • Rolling upgrade from V8.7.1 to V8.8.1
    When you upgrade from V8.7.1 to V8.8.1, in-place upgrade of the Decision Center database is necessary to use the user and group management feature in Decision Center, which was introduced in V8.8.0. However, in-place upgrade of the Rule Execution Server and Decision Warehouse databases is not necessary since the database schemas in these databases are the same between V8.7.1 and V8.8.1.
  • Rolling upgrade from V8.8.0 to V8.8.1
    When you upgrade from V8.8.0 to V8.8.1, in-place upgrade of the Rule Execution Server, Decision Warehouse, and Decision Center databases is not necessary since the database schemas in these databases are unchanged between the two versions.
