Before you start
Prepare for the tutorial by reading its description, and checking the audience and prerequisites.
As the Decision Center administrator,
you provide user access as follows:
- First, you configure the application server to authenticate users from a registry.
- Then, you create or import the users and their user groups to the Decision Center database. You must have users and groups in the database to implement security access to decision services.
In this tutorial, you use the sample server as the application server. You modify the configuration of the sample server to authenticate the users from an LDAP user registry that you create. Then, you create a connection from the Decision Center Business console to import the same users to the database.
For an introduction to setting up an LDAP connection in Operational Decision Manager, watch the following video:
Learning objectives
You learn how to do the following tasks:- Configure an LDAP registry with users and groups.
- Add the LDAP to the security realm.
- Connect to the LDAP from the Business console, and import users and groups to the database.
- Enforce security on a decision service.
Time required
This tutorial should take approximately 30 minutes to finish. If you explore other concepts related to this tutorial, it could take longer to complete.Audience
This tutorial is for users who want to gain knowledge on user management in Decision Center.Prerequisites
Note the following information:- You must install ApacheDS, an extensible and embeddable directory server. (This tutorial was developed by using the compressed file of Version 2.0.0-M24). Operational Decision Manager does not officially support the use of this LDAP, so do not use it with your production applications. It is meant as a pedagogical tool to be used in this tutorial only.
- You work directly on the configuration of the sample server. An instance of the Liberty profile is created the first time that you start the server (see Starting the sample server). At the end of the tutorial, instructions to re-create the sample server are provided. If you use your own Liberty instance, create a backup copy of the server before you start the tutorial.
- When you open the Decision Center Business console, use a supported browser such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Chrome. The decision service and tutorial files are in English.
