Restoring backup profiles

In PowerHA® SystemMirror® Version 7.2.7, or later, you can restore the backup profiles on Cloud to any cluster in PowerHA SystemMirror by using the backup restoration feature.

The backup restoration feature restores the data to a volume group by using Cloud backup files that are uploaded to the Cloud during Cloud backup operation. You must specify fields such as volume group name, disks, Cloud bucket name, Cloud service, and temporary directory path where the cloud backup files are temporarily copied. The backup restoration feature is not restricted to any specific storage, and it can be used for all types of storage disks.
Note: Remote backup method cannot be used to restore the backups profile.

You can use the SMIT interface or the clmgr add backup_profile command to restore the backup profiles.

For more information about restoring backup profiles on Cloud by using the clmgr add backup_profile command, see clmgr command.

To restore the backup profiles in PowerHA SystemMirror Version 7.2.7, or later, complete the following steps:
  1. From the command line, enter smit sysmirror.
  2. From the SMIT interface, select Cluster Applications and Resources > Cloud Backup Configuration > Restore Cloud Backup and press Enter.
  3. Complete the following fields and then press Enter:
    Backup file
Name of the backup file that is used to identify the specific backup.
    Cloud Service
Name of the Cloud service where the specified cloud bucket exists. The supported values are IBM® and AWS. The default value is IBM.
    Download path
Directory path where the downloaded files are temporarily stored, and automatically deleted later. The directory must have sufficient space to store all temporary files. Restoration of backup files might fail due to insufficient storage in the directory.
    Node names
List of node names where the backup files are restored.
    Source disks
List of disk names where the backup files are stored. To select the target disk for backup restoration, the disk size is also displayed along with the disk name.
    Target disks
Select disks into which a volume group must to be restored. The volume group is created on the selected disks. The target disk count must match with number of source disks.
    Volume group
Name of a volume group that is created from the backup files. You must specify a unique new name that is different from names of volume groups that exists on the cluster.
Note: After you restore the volume group on the PowerHA SystemMirror cluster, you can check the names of the associated file system and the logical volume. You can change these names by using the clmgr command or the smitty cspoc option.
