Content Platform Engine, Version 5.2.1

Designating a folder as a security parent by using Inherit security from folder

You can configure a document or custom object to inherit permissions from a folder. The folder can contain the document or custom object, but this is not required.

About this task

Run this procedure as part of your initial security configuration, after you have created document classes and configured their default security instance tabs. It is best to establish security inheritance before putting an object store into production.

Procedure

To designate a folder as a security parent:

  1. Log in to Administration Console for Content Platform Engine as object store administrator (object_store_admin).
  2. Open the Object Stores node, select Browse > Root Folder, and navigate to the folder containing the document whose security inheritance you are configuring.
  3. Click the folder's Security tab. Make sure the folder has ACEs whose Apply to setting is either This object and immediate children or This object and all children.
  4. Click the folder’s Contents tab.
  5. Click the document and then click the document’s General tab.
  6. In the Inherit security from folder field select a folder from the list.

All folders containing the document will appear in the list. If the folder you want is not in the list you will need to stop this procedure, file the document in the folder, and then start again.

  7. Click Save.
  8. Click the document's Security tab and confirm that it has inherited ACEs from the security folder. The inherited ACEs will show a Source type of Inherited. If the required rights do not appear, make sure that they are configured to be inheritable on the folder.
