MIME types: Eligibility for indexing
Some MIME types are considered to be ineligible for indexing. If the MIME type that Content Platform Engine identifies for a document is an ineligible type, Content Platform Engine deems the document to be ineligible for indexing.
For indexing eligibility purposes, Content Platform Engine determines the MIME types for documents by using several different methods: either indirectly by a byte signature or file extension name or directly by the value of the Content Type property. Content Platform Engine uses these methods in the following preference order:
- Byte signature
- File extension
- Content element property: Content Type
For example, Content Platform Engine attempts to use the file extension to determine the MIME type only if the document has no recognizable byte signature.
To help ensure that the MIME type is correctly identified, specify a value for the Content Type property for all content elements of the object. In particular, for XML documents, specify the value as text/xml or application/xml. (The alternative is to rely on the default MIME type assignment by the administration console or Content Platform Engine when the object is checked in).
Ineligible MIME types
The following table shows the MIME types that are ineligible for indexing. If the second column shows a file extension, a document must have both the specified MIME type and file extension to be ineligible for indexing.
