FileNet P8 component relationships

The FileNet® P8 components are interdependent. Although most components do not require other components be running in order to start successfully, the absence of other components can affect processing.

As a general rule, start the components and related servers in the following order (reverse the order for shutdown):

Directory services
Database servers
Rendition Engine (optional)
Content Platform Engine servers
IBM® Content Search Services servers
Rules Listener
IBM Content Navigator
Application Engine or Workplace XT servers (including expansion products that are installed on an Application Engine or Workplace XT server)
Other FileNet P8 components

The following table describes the relationships between components. Use this information to determine the optimal order for starting and stopping each component in your FileNet P8 system. In addition, use this information to determine the impact of stopping a single component for maintenance or other purposes.
