Managing synthetic transactions and events with Website Monitoring

Create synthetic transactions that monitor the performance and availability of internal applications, external applications, and public-facing web applications at different locations.

Create a synthetic transaction in the Synthetic Script Manager. Generate simple scripts in the Synthetic Script Manager to test the availability of an application, or use Selenium IDE to record synthetic scripts that replicate different user actions with an application. Then, configure a synthetic transaction to play back your script at specific intervals and playback locations.

Important: Only existing users of the IBM® Website Monitoring on Cloud add-on can use the Synthetic Playback agent and the Synthetic Script Manager. Website Monitoring has been replaced by IBM Cloud Availability Monitoring for the August 2017 release. For more information, see About Availability Monitoring.
Your available playback locations are the locations where you installed the Monitoring Agent for Synthetic Playback and the 15 points of presence (PoPs) that are provided for monitoring public-facing web applications. PoPs are available for the following locations:
  • Amsterdam
  • Chennai
  • Dallas
  • Frankfurt
  • Hong Kong
  • London
  • Melbourne
  • Mexico
  • Paris
  • San Jose
  • Sao Paolo
  • Singapore
  • Tokyo
  • Toronto
  • Washington

Create thresholds and resource groups to raise events and notify stakeholders when your applications are slow or unavailable. View performance data and generate historical reports in the Application Performance Dashboard.

If you monitor end-user response time for an application with the Response Time agent, you can view KPIs for both end-user and synthetic transactions in the Application Performance Dashboard. Add synthetic transactions as components to the application that you are monitoring with the Response Time agent.

Note: To work in Synthetics Script Manager, you must be a member of a role that has view permission for Synthetic Script Manager and Agent Configuration. For more information, see Roles and permissions.
