Hardware support

Description: z/OS® Communications Server includes the following enhancements for hardware:

  • Communications Server support for OSA-Express7S 25 GbE features - z/OS V2R3 Communications Server is enhanced to support the OSA-Express7S feature with 25 GbE bandwidth.

When change was introduced: z/OS V2R3 with the PTFs for APARs PI95703 and OA55256

  • Communications Server support for 25 GbE RoCE Express2 features - z/OS Communications Server V2R3 is enhanced to support IBM 25 GbE RoCE Express2 features.

When change was introduced: z/OS V2R3

  • Shared Memory Communications - Direct Memory Access - Significant performance improvements are provided for TCP protocol workloads that are deployed on the same IBM Z® CPC. This solution uses Shared Memory Communications - Direct Memory Access (SMC-D) for TCP connections to local peers which also support this function.
Incompatibilities: This function does not support IPAQENET and IPAQIDIO interfaces that are defined by using the DEVICE, LINK, and HOME statements. Convert your IPAQENET and IPAQIDIO definitions to use the INTERFACE statement to enable this support.
    Dependencies:
    • This function requires an IBM z13® GA2 level of hardware.
    • This function requires at least one Internal Shared Memory (ISM) device that is configured in the Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD).

When change was introduced: z/OS V2R3 and with the PTFs for APARs OA48411 and PI45028 for z/OS V2R2

  • Communications Server support for RoCE Express2 features - z/OS Communications Server extends the Shared Memory Communications over Remote Direct Memory Access (SMC-R) function to support the next generation IBM® 10 GbE RoCE Express2® feature. The IBM 10 GbE RoCE Express2® feature allows TCP/IP stacks on different LPARs within the same central processor complex (CPC) to leverage the power of these state-of-the-art adapters to optimize network connectivity for mission critical workloads by using Shared Memory Communications technology.
Incompatibilities: This function does not support IPAQENET interfaces that are defined by using the DEVICE, LINK, and HOME statements. Convert your IPAQENET definitions to use the INTERFACE statement to enable this support.
Dependencies: This function requires the IBM z14 or later systems.

When change was introduced: z/OS V2R3 and with the PTFs for APARs OA51950 and PI75200 for z/OS V2R2 and with the PTF for APAR OA51949
