How the end user views the shared file system

You will read about the kinds of file systems and data sets that support the shared file system capability in the sysplex. Figure 1 shows that, to the end users, the logical view of the hierarchical file system does not change. From their point of view, accessing files and directories in the system is just the same. That is true for all end users, whether they are in a sysplex or not.

This logical view applies to the end user only. However, system programmers need to know that the illustration of directories found in Figure 1 does not reflect the physical view of file systems. For example, some of the directories are actually symbolic links.
