PACK—Compress Data

The PACK primary command sets pack mode, which controls whether the data is to be stored in packed format.

The PACK command saves the pack mode setting in the edit profile. See Packing data for more information about packing data.

Syntax

ON: Saves data in packed format.
Note: You cannot specify PACK ON when editing a z/OS® UNIX file.
OFF: Saves data in unpacked (standard) format.

To set pack mode on, enter this command:

PACK ON

To set pack mode off, enter this command:

PACK OFF
