Preventing time sequence gaps in CDS records (journal records also missing)

To prevent time sequence gaps in CDS records, perform the following steps:

  1. Call on IDCAMS REPRO to create an output data set, check for a successful completion code on the creation of the output data set, and create an input data set.

If a successful completion code is not received for the creation of the output data set, the job ends, and the input data set is not created.

  2. Make CDS data sets large enough that the need for a reorganization is infrequent.

If your CDS is currently too small and you want to change that, the next time you reorganize the data set, add 10 cylinders. If the data set is still too small, the next time you reorganize add another 10 cylinders. Do this until the data set is large enough that the need for reorganizations is infrequent.

  3. Do a backup of the CDS before every reorganization, and keep those backup tapes until it is time for the next reorganization.
  4. Reorganize your CDSs by utilizing the proper procedures.
  5. Protect DFSMShsm's resources with RACF® or a comparable product.
