Retrieving the instruction data set
An instruction data set is optionally created for an aggregate backup. It may contain instructions or other information to help you perform that application’s recovery. It is contained in the instruction data set, which is the second file on the control file tape.
The instruction data set may also include the following important
information:
- Required SMS attributes
- Sample ACS routines
- Description of the application
- RACF® environment
- Software requirements
- Hardware requirements
- Unique application execution instructions
To help you perform aggregate recovery, you should first retrieve the instruction data set. The instruction data set is contained in the instruction/activity log file, outputdatasetprefix.I.CnnVnnnn. The outputdatasetprefix was specified in the aggregate group during aggregate backup. You can retrieve the instruction data set by issuing the ARECOVER command with the INSTRUCTION parameter.
