Using the default management class
SMS allows you to define a management class and to specify that this management class is the default management class. Thus, any SMS data set that is not assigned to a management class by the automatic class selection routine uses the attributes specified in the default management class.
If you do not specify a default management class, DFSMShsm generates its own default by using the default values for all of the management class attributes. Thus, in the absence of a specified default management class, DFSMShsm uses the following values for any SMS-managed data set for which a management class is not assigned.
