z/OS DFSMS OAM Planning, Installation, and Storage Administration Guide for Tape Libraries
SC23-6867-00

The IBM System Storage Virtualization Engine TS7700 provides tape virtualization capabilities for the System z environment and is the successor to the IBM Total Storage 3494 Virtual Tape Server (VTS) and the IBM TotalStorage 3494 Peer-to-Peer VTS (PtP VTS). Members of the TS7700 product family include the TS7740 Virtualization Engine (3957-V06 and 3957-V07) and the disk-only TS7720 Virtualization Engine (3957-VEA and 3957-VEB). Unless stated otherwise, references to the TS7700 Virtualization Engine apply to both the TS7740 and the TS7720 and references to the 3957-V0x apply to both the 3957-V06 and the 3957-V07 and references to the 3957-VEx apply to both the 3957-VEA and the 3957-VEB. In addition to the following sections, for more information on the TS7700 Virtualization Engine, refer to the latest IBM Redbook for the TS7700 as well as the TS7700 Customer Information Center. To view the customer information center for the TS7700 refer to the following Web site: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ts7700/cust/index.jsp .
Note: In general, references throughout this document to the terms "VTS" and "Peer-to-Peer VTS" also apply to the TS7700 Virtualization Engine. In general, the TS7700 Virtualization Engine uses the existing 3494 VTS and PtP VTS support that is in place at the host. However, with specific releases of the TS7700, explicit host support is added. For TS7700 Release 1.3 refer to APAR OA20065 (z/OS V1R6 and above), for TS7700 Release 1.5 refer to APAR OA24966 (z/OS V1R8 and above), and for TS7700 Release 1.6, refer to APAR OA28632 (z/OS V1R9 and above), for TS7700 Release 2.0, refer to OA32957 (z/OS V1R10 and above), for TS7700 Release 2.1, refer to OA37267 (z/OS V1R11 and above).
