z/OS DFSMS Software Support for IBM System Storage TS1140, TS1130, and TS1120 Tape Drives (3592)

DFSMS hierarchical storage manager (DFSMShsm), a z/OS functional component, automatically manages low activity and inactive data in both system-managed and non-system-managed environments. DFSMShsm also provides automatic backup and recovery of active data in the same environments.

This topic describes specific changes to DFSMShsm support for the 3592 Model J tape drives. These changes are as follows:
  • Output tape selection
  • Output tape utilization
  • Reuse capacity table
  • WORM tape cartridge rejection at OPEN time
  • Aggregate backup and recovery (ABARs) with WORM tape cartridge
