CREATE VOLUMEENTRY

z/OS DFSMS Software Support for IBM System Storage TS1140, TS1130, and TS1120 Tape Drives (3592)
SC23-6854-00

Enterprise format 4 (EFMT4) and enterprise encrypted format 4 (EEFMT4) are new recording technologies used by the TS1140 tape drive. EFMT4 is the non-encrypted recording format and is the default recording format for the TS1140. EEFMT4 is used to specify that the data on the tape is recorded in the encryption format.

The CREATE VOLUMEENTRY command allows the recording field in the volume records of a tape library to be created with subparameters of EFMT4 or EEFMT4 with the following rules:
  • EFMT4 subparameter indicates READ/WRITE on an EFMT4 track device.
  • EEFMT4 subparameter indicates READ/WRITE on an EEFMT4 device.
  • • EFMT4 is allowed only with media types MEDIA9, MEDIA10, MEDIA11, MEDIA12, or MEDIA13. Any use of MEDIA1 through MEDIA8 will produce an IDC3226I error message being displayed twice, once for EFMT4 and once for the media in question. The double display indicates an incompatibility between the EFMT4 subparameter and the media type displayed.
  • • EEFMT4 is allowed only with media types MEDIA9, MEDIA10, MEDIA11, MEDIA12, or MEDIA13. Any use of MEDIA1 through MEDIA8 will produce an IDC3226I error message being displayed twice, once for EEFMT4 and once for the media in question. The double display indicates an incompatibility between the EEFMT4 subparameter and the media type displayed.
  • • If MEDIA9 or MEDIA10 are specified and RECORDING is not specified, default to EFMT2 for RECORDING value. Default to EFMT4 for MEDIA11, MEDIA12, and MEDIA13, if recording is not specified.
