If you attempt to add an unacceptable value for a numeric custom field, a message is issued. For example, when you add an employee serial number greater than allowed by the MAXVALUE for the EMPSER field, you receive a message similar to the following: Example:
Similarly, if you attempt to add an unacceptable value for a character custom field, a message is issued. For example, when you add a numeric value in a character field that requires only alphabetic characters, you receive a message similar to the following: Example:
