Introduction
The "IBM Extensions for Memory Analyzer" are a collection of plug-ins for both
the
IBM Monitoring and Diagnostic Tools for Java -- Memory Analyzer tool
available in the IBM
Support Assistant (ISA) and the open source
Eclipse Memory Analyzer Tool (MAT).
The base Memory Analyzer tools allows you to:
-
Diagnose and resolve memory leaks involving the Java heap.
-
Derive architectural understanding of your Java application through footprint
analysis.
-
Improve application performance by tuning memory footprint and optimizing Java
collections and Java cache usage.
The extensions can be used with the following dump types:
-
Java heap dumps
-
IBM Portable Heap Dump ( .phd ) binary file
-
Oracle Java Virtual Machine (JVM) hprof binary heap dump
-
System dumps generated by an IBM JVM (processed with
jextract
where required)
-
z/OS SVC dumps generated by an IBM 1.4.2 JVM
However preference is give to the hprof binary dump and system dumps from the IBM JVM as these provide more information.
