What's new in work management

The new features and performance enhancements that are added to the Work Supervision and Work Execution Work Centers streamline the work management process and improve efficiency for both supervisors and technicians.

General enhancements for supervisors and technicians

The following enhancements apply to both supervisors and technicians:

More signature options for Work Execution and Work Supervision Work Centers
To give administrators improved control over access to data and applications, more signature options are available for the Work Execution and Work Supervision Work Centers. By default, the signature option for assignments is not enabled in the security template for supervisors. If necessary, administrators can enable the option manually.
IDs are used for descriptions on work order fields when no description is specified
Previously, if a work order field included a description and no description was provided, Unspecified was displayed in the field. Effective in this release, if no description is entered, the field displays the corresponding identifier. For example, if no description is provided for an asset on a work order, the asset ID is displayed.
Ability to launch inspections directly from the Details page of work orders
If an inspection is associated with an asset or location in the Multiple Assets and Locations table on the Details page of the work order, technicians and supervisors can launch the inspection directly from the Multiple Assets and Locations table. An Inspections tab is displayed only if inspections are associated with a work order.
Ability to classify work orders
A new Classification tile is added to the Details page of work orders. Supervisors and technicians can navigate through a hierarchy of classifications to select the appropriate classification for the work order. By default, this feature is not enabled. If your organization wants to implement the feature, an administrator must enable the signature option and grant access to the security group for supervisors and technicians.

URL attachments in work orders
You can include new sources of information in work orders. In addition to image and document files, supervisors and technicians can now view URL attachments in work orders. You can associate more dynamic information with the work orders that you create. When a technician or supervisor clicks an attached URL, the link opens in a separate browser tab.
More details for service addresses
You can provide more details for the service address of a work order. Providing more information can decrease the time that is spent in the field to locate a work order's asset or location. The Service Address tile now displays more details, such as formatted street addresses with street, state, or province information, numerous reference points, and directions to the location.
Ability to open assets and locations from work orders
Supervisors and technicians can now open asset and location records directly from the Multiple Assets and Locations table on the Details page of a work order.
Editable long descriptions for failure reports
When supervisors or technicians report failures, they can now edit long descriptions.
Downtime and uptime for assets
When multiple assets are associated with a work order, supervisors and technicians can report downtime for individual assets in the Multiple Assets and Locations table on the Details page. You can use the toggle switch in the table to report that an asset is down. When the issue is resolved, you can report that the asset is up again.

Enhancements for the Work Supervision Work Center

New features are added to the Work Supervision Work Center to enhance work management capabilities for supervisors.

Ability to add crews to work order assignments
Supervisors can add crews to work order assignments. An Add Crew option is displayed on the Assignments tab if assignments are associated with a work order or task work order.
Ability to view multiple assets and locations that are associated with work orders
When multiple assets and locations are associated with a work order, the details page displays a table that lists the assets and locations and indicates whether the work for the asset or location is completed.

Enhancements for the Work Execution Work Center

New features are added to the Work Execution Work Center to enhance work management capabilities for technicians.

Default status for work orders that technicians create
To improve efficiency, administrators can specify a default status for the work orders that technicians create. Work orders can be assigned a default status of INPRG, which eliminates the need for an approval process every time a technician creates a work order. When administrators specify site options for work orders in the Organizations application, they can specify the default status of a work order as either WAPPR or INPRG.
More details to work orders
In addition to description, status, asset, location, and failure information, technicians can now add or update scheduled start, scheduled finish, work type, and priority information.
Time for other labor
When technicians report work, they can provide information about tasks that are done by other labor in addition to work that they complete. By default, this feature is not enabled. If your organization wants to implement the feature, an administrator must enable the signature option and grant access to the security group for technicians. In addition, technicians can enter premium code information. This feature is also controlled by a signature option.
Meter readings for multiple assets and locations
In the Multiple Assets and Locations table on the Details page in the Work Execution Work Center, technicians can enter meter readings for assets and locations that are associated with work orders.
Sequence of tasks in a work order
When tasks on a work order are sequenced, each task card on the Plans tab for the work order displays the sequence number of the task. Cards for the tasks are also displayed in sequential order.
Ability to report work directly from work order cards
To help technicians complete work more efficiently, an option to report work is added to cards for approved work orders. Technicians can select that option to quickly report details about tasks, materials, tools, and services that are associated with the work order.
Ability to complete assignments for crews
Technicians who are on crews can now complete work orders that are assigned to the crew.
