Preventive maintenance frequency schedules

You specify a frequency schedule for a preventive maintenance (PM) to determine how often the PM generates work orders.

Preventive maintenance work is typically triggered by one or more conditions:

You specify scheduling information about time based and meter based frequencies in the Frequency tab in the Preventive Maintenance application.

You can work with more complex schedules in the PM tab in the Preventive Maintenance application. You can use lead times, seasonal and extended dates, and trigger work outside of a PM frequency cycle for more complex schedules

Fixed schedules and floating schedules

To schedule any master or associated PM, determine whether you want to do work on a fixed schedule or a floating schedule. On a fixed schedule, you plan work based on the target start date of the previous work. The target start increments by a frequency that you specify. On a fixed schedule, you can create multiple work orders in advance. On a floating schedule, you plan work based on the closure of the previous work. You cannot generate a new work order until the current one is completed on a floating schedule.

  • When you create a fixed-schedule PM, the PM work is scheduled based on the value in the Last Start Date field on each associated PM. The Last Start Date field is on the PM tab of the Preventive Maintenance application.
  • When you create a floating-schedule PM, the PM work is scheduled based on the value in the Last Completion Date field. The Last Completion Date field is on the PM tab of the Preventive Maintenance application.
