IBM® WebSphere® Portal is installed as a single component, complete with an integrated database for storing information. After installation, you can expand your environment to include high availability failover, a more robust database, and LDAP-based authentication.

Review the WebSphere Portal detailed system requirements for your operating system and ensure that all hardware and software matches the minimum product level before you install WebSphere Portal.

Choose one of the following installation methods to install IBM WebSphere Portal:

  • Clustered environment: Installing with the Installation Manager on Linux
    You can use the IBM Installation Manager to install IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM WebSphere Application Server in a clustered environment. The IBM Installation Manager gathers essential information, such as host name and node, and then performs the installation.
  • Clustered environment: Installing with the response file on Linux
    First you must install IBM Installation Manager. You can either create a response file for your system or you can modify one of the existing response files. Use a response file to install IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM WebSphere Application Server in a clustered environment. Record a response file on the same operating system you plan for the installation. If you have multiple operating systems, you must record a response file for each operating system.
