Developing basic solution applications

Solution developers can create their own Portal Application Archive (PAA) file. The developers can then use the Solution Installer to install their application in the IBM® WebSphere® Portal environment.

Review the following requirements before creating your own Portal Application Archive (PAA) file:
  • Checking server dependency
    Before you install a Portal Application Archive (PAA) file, you must verify that the file is compatible with the current version of IBM WebSphere Portal.

    Use the Portal Application Archive (PAA) file format to install applications with the Solution Installer. The PAA file is a customized compressed file that contains an application. This application is installed on IBM WebSphere Portal with the ConfigEngine.

    When deploying large applications with many constituent components to IBM WebSphere Portal, there can be a large number of steps required to install each component and configure required resources. The Solution Installer automates many of these deployment tasks.
