IBM Performance Management

Configuring the agent on Windows systems

You can configure the agent on Windows operating systems by using the IBM Performance Management window.

Procedure

  1. Click Start > All Programs > IBM Monitoring agents > IBM Performance Management.
  2. On the IBM Performance Management window, and right-click Monitoring Agent for Hadoop.
  3. Click Configure agent.
Attention: If Configure agent is disabled, click Reconfigure.
  4. On the Java parameters tab, select a value for the Java trace level parameter from the Java list.
  5. Optional: In the JVM arguments field, specify a value for the JVM arguments parameter.
  6. Click Next.
  7. In the Socket Data Source field, specify a port number to change the default port number of 6789, and click Next.
    Remember:
    • The agent uses the port to listen to the data from the socket clients.
    • The value 0 indicates that an ephemeral port is used.
  8. To configure a host, complete the following steps:
    1. On the Subnode Data Source tab, click New to add the Hadoop cluster hosts and their IP addresses.
    2. In the Host Name field, specify the host name of the Hadoop node that is being monitored.
      Remember:
      • Specify the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the Hadoop node when you specify the host name. For example, hos1.ibm.com
      • If the length of the FQDN exceeds 25 characters, specify only the short host name without the domain name. For example, if the FQDN of a host is myhadoopclustersetupnode.ibm.com, the short host name is myhadoopclustersetupnode.
    3. In the IP Address field, specify the IP address of the Hadoop node that is added as a host in step b.
    Remember:
    • To add more hosts, repeat steps a, b, and c.
    • To remove a host, click Delete.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Right-click Monitoring Agent for Hadoop and click Start.
Remember: If the configuration of some of the hosts is changed, you must configure the agent again.

What to do next

  1. Configure each Hadoop node so that the Hadoop agent can collect data. For information about the configuration settings, see Configuring Hadoop nodes.
  2. Enable the subnode events to view eventing thresholds of the Hadoop agent. For information about enabling subnode events, see Configuring the dashboard for viewing Hadoop events.
  3. Log in to the Performance Management console to view the data that is collected by the agent in the dashboards. For information about using the Performance Management console, see Starting the Performance Management console.
