Guidelines for updating custom columns

If you have custom columns in the default tables, you can update the custom columns. You can also update the columns in the custom tables. You can increase the column size for custom columns in the default tables and for all columns in the custom tables.

• When you update a column to a different data type, verify in the datatypes.xml file that the data type that you are using exists.
• If your data type does not exist, you must add the data type. For more information, see Extending the data types files.
