Removing GSKit Version 7 after upgrading to Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.4

The Tivoli® Storage Manager installation wizard upgrades GSKit Version 8 and later. GSKit Version 7 is not removed or upgraded when you upgrade to Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7.1.4, even if GSKit was installed with an earlier version of Tivoli Storage Manager.

About this task

If you no longer need GSKit V7 and want to free up space on your system, you can remove it after the upgrade to Tivoli Storage Manager V7.1.4.
Important: Removing GSKit V7 might affect other programs on your system that rely on it.

Procedure

To remove GSKit V7, complete the following steps:

  1. Back up your registry.
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type Regedit. Click OK.
    3. To save a copy of your registry, select File > Export.
    4. If you must later restore the registry, select File > Import.

  2. Locate the directory where the GSKit is installed. The default directory is C:\Program Files\IBM\gsk7\.
  3. Remove the GSKit installation directory, gsk7, and all subfiles and directories. Right-click the folder and click Delete.
  4. Remove the GSKit 7 registry key and all subkeys and values.
    Important: Removing the wrong key can cause system problems such as not being able to restart the workstation.
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type Regedit. Click OK.
    3. The GSKit registry key is in this directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM. Right-click the registry key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\GSK7, and click Delete.
