What is a single CICS region?

A single CICS region is a CICS region that is not part of any CICSplex and hence not managed by CICSPlex® SM.

A single CICS region can take either of the following forms:
A stand-alone region
It is not part of a CICSplex and not managed by CICSPlex SM. It does not have support for any of the CICS® management client interface (CMCI) APIs either, so it cannot be administered or operated through any HTTP client, including CICS Explorer®.
A CICS System Management Single Server (SMSS)
It is not part of a CICSplex and hence not managed by CICSPlex SM. However, it is configured with the CMCI so it can be administered through one or more of the CMCI APIs and CICS Explorer. Depending on the type of CMCI that is configured with the region, different capabilities are available for administering the region. For more information, see CICS management client interface (CMCI).
