Querying policy rules

A CICS® policy is an XML definition that describes the controls or actions that can be applied to one or more applications that are deployed on a platform. Policies can be applied to applications, operations, platforms, and region types. You can query policy rules to determine the set of policy rules that apply in a scope.

About this task

You can query policy rules for an application, operation, platform, region type, or region. RACF® security checking does not apply to query policy operations.

Procedure

  1. In the Cloud Explorer view, right-click the application, operation, platform, region type or region that you want to query.
  2. Click Search.
  3. Click the resulting option, which corresponds to the item you want to query. Possible options include:
    • Policy rules for application
    • Policy rules for operation
    • Policy rules for platform
    • Policy rules for region type
    • Policy rules for region only

Results

The results of the query are displayed in the Search view. You can see the rules within the scope of the query, and from the rules you can determine the name of the policy from which each rule is deployed. The policy information contains the policy names and policy rules. Because multiple policy scopes can apply at run time, the query might return more rules than you expect. For more information about policy scopes, see Policy scopes.

What to do next

If you want to edit the policy rules, note the policy name, navigate to the xxx.policy file in the Project Explorer view, and edit it by using the XML editor as described in Adding rules to a policy in a CICS Bundle project.
