The System Manager APIs include listener APIs that collect performance data and make the data available, and a manager API for creating client applications that gather the performance data.
The System Manager Listener C++ API provides an easy mechanism for integrating existing and future FileNet® applications with IBM® System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management or with an application written using the System Manager Java™ API. By design, the API has relatively few entry points and thus minimizes the amount of time and resources required by an application to integrate with IBM System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management. Using the interfaces in this API, the application can create and configure the Listener, listen for events, gather performance data regarding the events and related event attributes, accumulate the data for analysis, and communicate with connected Managers.
The System Manager Listener Java™ API is nearly identical to the System Manager Listener C++ API, and enables FileNet applications to integrate with IBM System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management using the Java language, or integrate with an application written using the System Manager Java API. In addition, the Listener Java API also provides support for adding counters to the set of those being monitored by the Listener, which may also include those associated with Microsoft® Windows Performance Monitor (Perfmon).
The System Manager Java API provides a programmatic interface to collect performance and usage data from systems that integrate with the System Manager Listener. For example, performance counters implemented by the Application Engine Content Engine and Process Engine can be retrieved using the System Manager Java API to display information such as remote procedure calls, call durations, and Java Virtual Machine statistics. The IBM System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management application was written using the System Manager Java API.
