Configuring action services

Use this page to configure the general, federated repositories, and LDAP properties of the IBM® Business Monitor action services.

To view this administrative console page, click Applications > Monitor Services > Monitor Action Services > Configuration. The Monitor action services configuration settings are organized into the following tabs:
To configure the Monitor action services, change the information on this page, and click either Apply or OK.
Important: To make any changes to the configuration properties effective, you must stop and restart the Monitor Server.

General tab

Use this tab to configure the general properties of the Monitor action services. All fields for this tab are optional.

SMTP sender name

Specifies the address of the sender initiating the notification. For example: default@127.0.0.0

SMTP host name

Specifies the name of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) host. This value represents the host name for the email server.

SMTP port number

Specifies the number of the SMTP port. This value represents the port number of the email server. The default port number is 25.

CEI action logging

Specifies whether Common Event Infrastructure (CEI) action logging is enabled or disabled:
On
Enables CEI action logging.
Off
Disables CEI action logging

Federated repositories tab

Use this tab to configure the federated repositories properties of the Monitor action services. All fields on this tab are optional.

Service provider URL

Specifies the URL that is used to connect to the federated repositories server. For a stand-alone server, this value might be localhost:2809. For a network deployment environment, this field must be set to the deployment manager host name plus the deployment manager BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS port (separated by a colon). To determine the bootstrap port, in the administrative console, click System administration > Deployment manager. Under Additional Properties, click Ports.

User type

Specifies the name of the federated repositories entity type that is returned from user queries

Group type

Specifies the name of the federated repositories entity type that is returned from group queries

uid field name

Specifies the federated repositories field name for user identification (uid) information

Cell phone field name

Specifies the federated repositories field name for cell phone information

Email field name

Specifies the federated repositories field name for email addresses

Pager field name

Specifies the federated repositories field name for pager information

LDAP tab

Use this tab to configure the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) properties of the Monitor action services. All fields on this tab are optional.

Service provider URL

Specifies the URL that is used to connect to the LDAP server

User ID

Specifies the user ID that is used to log in to the LDAP server

Password

Specifies the user password that is used to log in to the LDAP server

uid field name

Specifies the federated repositories field name for user identification (uid) information

Cell phone field name

Specifies the federated repositories field name for cell phone information

Email field name

Specifies the LDAP attribute for the email addresses

Pager field name

Specifies the LDAP attribute for pager information

    Use this page to view information about and manage notifications templates.

  • Notification template configuration settings
    Use the Notification template configuration page to create a template that defines how notifications are sent. You specify such options as how the notification is published (for example, as a dashboard alert) and to whom the notification is sent.
  • Template name
    Specifies the unique name of the notification template.
  • Description
    Specifies a meaningful description of the notification template.
  • Default action service type
    Specifies the default method of publishing the notification (by dashboard alert, cell phone, email, or pager).
  • 'To' query type
    Specifies the type of query used in the To field: federated repositories query, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) query, email address, or user ID.
  • To
    Specifies the users to be notified by default when this template is used. This field can contain a federated repositories query, an LDAP query, or a space-separated list of email addresses or user IDs, as specified by the 'To' query type. If a group contains a group, users that are members of the nested group are not notified.
  • Query base
    Specifies the federated repositories or LDAP base to be used with the query. For example, the simple federated repositories query for a specific group is @xsi:type='Group' and cn='AlertGroup'.
  • Owner
    Specifies the default owner for the notification template. The owner receives a notification if no users are subscribed to the notification.
  • Priority
    Specifies the priority for the notification. When you view notifications in the Alert Manager widget, you can view and change the priority, and you can sort the notifications by priority.
  • Subject
    Specifies the subject text for a notification, by using variables or XPath queries. The variables correspond to Common Base Event data fields and are identified with surrounding percent signs (for example, %CBEVARIABLE%). XPath Queries can be used to reference any of the data within the Common Base Event XML and are identified with two percent signs at the start and one at the end (for example, %%XPATH%). The prefix-namespace mappings used in the XPath are defined on the Template XML Namespaces properties page.

    Specifies the message body for a notification, using variables.

  • Situation event name
    Specifies the unique name of the situation event binding that you want to create. The situation event name must be the same as that specified for the BusinessSituationNameattribute of corresponding situation events in Monitor Model editor.
