Considerations for migrating to a different operating system or from 32-bit to 64-bit

To migrate to a computer with a different operating system, or to migrate from a 32-bit computer to a 64-bit computer, you must perform more migration steps.

To migrate to a computer with a different operating system, you must install IBM® Business Process Manager V8.5.7 on a third computer with the same operating system as the migration source computer (for example, Linux if you are migrating from Linux to Windows). Then, run the BPMCreateRemoteMigrationUtilities command to create a compressed file that you can use on the migration source computer. Copy the file to the source computer.

Note:
  • You must install IBM Business Process Manager on an operating system version that V8.5.7 supports. If your source system is on an operating system version that is not supported, use a supported newer version of that operating system for the third computer mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
  • If V8.5.7 does not support your source operating system type, you cannot use the business data migration method. However, you can still do artifact migration. For more details, see Migrating artifacts to IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7.

To migrate from a 32-bit system, run the BPMCreateRemoteMigrationUtilities command on your 64-bit IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.7 system, but use the command with the 32bit parameter when you are creating the files for the source system. V8.5.7 supports 64-bit platforms only.

IBM BPM version 8570 cumulative fix 2017.03IBM BPM V8.5.7 cumulative fix 2017.03 or later requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7. If your 32-bit system does not support Java 7, you must either upgrade your operating system to a newer version that supports Java 7, or migrate to IBM BPM V8.5.7 CF2016.12, which is the last version that provides 32-bit Java 6 in the remote migration utility.

The following operating systems are the minimum that support Java 7:
  • AIX
    • AIX 7.0 base
  • Linux
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 Advanced Platform 5.7
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Server 6 6.1
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 SP4
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11
  • Solaris
    • Solaris 10 base
