Configuring the AFP viewer

You can use the AFP viewer as an alternative to the AFP2PDF viewer to view your AFP documents.

About this task

The AFP viewer supports the IBM Content Manager OnDemand repository and the following file types:

  • AFP (application/afp)
  • application/vnd.ibm.modcap
  • application/x-vnd.ibm.scs

You must register and configure the AFP Viewer plug-in by using the IBM Content Navigator administration tool.

To use the AFP Viewer with an IBM Content Manager OnDemand repository, each client workstation also needs the AFP Viewer browser plug-in to be installed from the IBM Content Manager OnDemand installation directory. The executable file to start the AFP Viewer browser plug-in installation program is afpplgin.exe and is in the following directory where IBM Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit is installed: $ODWEK_program_files/plugins/.

If you configure the AF2PDF viewer and the AFP viewer, but the AFP Viewer browser plug-in is not installed on the client workstation, IBM Content Navigator opens documents from the IBM Content Manager OnDemand repository with the AFP2PDF viewer.

Procedure

To configure IBM Content Navigator to view AFP files:

  1. In the IBM Content Navigator administration tool, click Plug-ins, and then click New Plug-in.
  2. Register and configure the AFP Viewer plug-in: AFPViewerPlugin.jar. Load the JAR file by entering the fully qualified URL or the file path to the AFPViewerPlugin.jar file that is installed on the server:

    • Enter the path to the file that is installed on the server, for example:
      • Linux®: /opt/IBM/ECMClient/plugins/afpViewerPlugin/AFPViewerPlugin.jar
      • Microsoft Windows: C:\Program Files\IBM\ECMClient\plugins\afpViewerPlugin\AFPViewerPlugin.jar
  3. Save the plug-in configuration.
  4. In the Viewer Maps settings, add the AFP Viewer to a viewer map.
    1. Select an existing viewer map or click New Mapping to create a new viewer map.
    2. Select the repository type or select All Repositories, and then select AFP Viewer.
    3. You can add any of the supported MIME types that you use, and then click OK.
    4. On the Viewer Map page, specify the lookup order in which the AFP viewer is used.
  5. In the Desktops settings, add the viewer map to a desktop.
    1. Select an existing desktop or click New Desktop to create a new desktop.
    2. Click the General tab.
    3. For Viewer map, specify the viewer map that is configured with the AFP viewer.
