Upgrading Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V by using the installation wizard

You can upgrade to Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V Version 8.1.8 by using the installation wizard.

Before you upgrade Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V, review the following information:
  • Before the upgrade, do not uninstall the previous version. If you upgrade Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V by first uninstalling the previous version and then installing the new version, the upgrade is treated as a new installation. As a result, when you initially start the Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V Management Console after the installation, the configuration wizard will be opened automatically and you will have to go through the configuration again.
  • Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V can be installed only in the default location (C:\Program Files\IBM\SpectrumProtect). If you previously installed Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V in a custom location, the program files from the previous version, except for the log and trace files, are moved to the default installation location during the upgrade.

  • If you are upgrading from a previous version of Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V that was installed in a custom location, ensure that you stop all IBM Spectrum Protect client acceptor and agent services before you upgrade to Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V V8.1.8. The services are typically called TSM Client Acceptor and TSM Remote Client Agent in the Services window. Stopping these services before the upgrade will ensure that there is no extended delay during the upgrade process.

To upgrade to Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V V8.1.8, follow the instructions in Installing Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V components, but with the following restriction: In the installation wizard, you must select the same installation type that was used to install the previous version of Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V.
