AIX: Stopping the server
You can stop the server when needed to return control to the operating system. To avoid losing administrative and client node connections, stop the server only after current sessions are completed or canceled.
About this task
To stop the server, issue the following command from the IBM Spectrum Protect™ command line:
halt

Important: Before you issue the kill command, ensure that you know the correct process ID for the IBM
Spectrum Protect server.
The dsmserv.v6lock file, in the directory from which the server is running, can be used to identify the process ID of the process to kill. To display the file, enter:cat /instance_dir/dsmserv.v6lock
![AIX operating systems](./../common/images/ngaix.gif)
kill -36 dsmserv_pid
where dsmserv_pid is the process ID number.
