Configuring AIX systems for disk performance

Use JFS2 file systems for IBM Spectrum Protect™ in most cases. Examine the queue depth for disks that are in use.

• Use JFS2 file systems for the IBM Spectrum Protect database, recovery logs, and disk storage pools, unless you are using disk for LAN-free operations. If you are using disk for LAN-free operations, then use General Parallel File System (GPFS™) for the shared storage pools.

  Use the JFS2 rbrw option on the mount command, especially if IBM Spectrum Protect database backups are stored to a FILE device class.

• The default queue depths for non-IBM disks that are used for IBM Spectrum Protect are often low by default. If the queue depth is less than 32, see the documentation for the disk system or contact the manufacturer about guidelines for the queue depth.
