DB2 Bondi Release 10.5.0.5 onwards, the support for IBM data server products with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 is deprecated.  

Migrating DB2 Projects to Visual Studio 2008 or Later

If you developed a DB2® database project in Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Visual Studio 2005, you can use the Visual Studio Conversion Wizard to help migrate the project to an IBM® database project in Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2010, Visual Studio 2012, Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2015, Visual Studio 2017 and Visual Studio 2019.

Attention: After you migrate a DB2 project to an IBM database project in Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2010, Visual Studio 2012, Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2015, Visual Studio 2017 or Visual Studio 2019, you cannot open the project in Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Visual Studio 2005.

To migrate a DB2 project to an IBM database project in Visual Studio 2008:

  1. Open the DB2 project in Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2010, Visual Studio 2012, Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2015, Visual Studio 2017 or Visual Studio 2019.
    1. From the File menu, select Open, and then select Project/Solution.
    2. In the Open Project window, browse to and select the DB2 project that you want to migrate.
    3. Click Open.

      The Visual Studio Conversion Wizard opens.

  2. Complete the Visual Studio Conversion Wizard.

    After you click Close in the wizard, the IBM database project is opened, and the converted project and solution files are saved automatically.

  3. Update the database reference in the IBM database project properties.
    1. In the Solution Explorer, right-click the project, and then select Properties on the shortcut menu.
    2. In the Property Pages window, click Ellipsis button for the Data Connection property.

      The IBM Data Connection window opens.

    3. If a data connection is not defined for your DB2 database, click New Connection, and then add a DB2 data connection.
    4. Select your DB2 data connection in the Connection name list, and then click OK.
    5. Click OK in the Property Pages window.

Your IBM database project is now ready to develop further in Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2010, Visual Studio 2012, Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2015, Visual Studio 2017 or Visual Studio 2019.
