Introduction to migration from Version 8

Migration is the process of upgrading from one DB2® release to a later release. Migration also refers to the process of changing from one migration mode to the next.

You can migrate a Version 8 subsystem that is in new-function mode to DB2 10 without starting the subsystem in DB2 9.

Important restrictions:
  • A data sharing group that is migrated from Version 8 to DB2 10 cannot have any DB2 9 members.
  • If you start a Version 8 subsystem migration to DB2 10, you can fall back to only Version 8.
  • If you start a Version 8 subsystem migration to DB2 10 and then fall back to Version 8, you cannot subsequently migrate the subsystem to DB2 9.
