Custom sorting

Create a custom sort order that is not governed by the data and does not require a calculation.

Before you begin

If any of the following apply to your data, you might not see all the items in the list you assemble for a custom sort:

  • The data in a visualization might get clipped and can affect your custom sort.
  • There is an applied filter that removes an item in your list.
  • An item in your list no longer exists in the data.
Tip:

If you select too many items in your custom sort, performance can be degraded.

Note:

When you copy and paste a visualization from a dashboard to a report, custom sorting is not applied to the visualization in the report.

Procedure

  1. Open a visualization.
  2. Click the Field Field icon icon.
  3. From the column that you want to custom sort click the menu 3 dots on a column icon.
You can sort the data in either the x-axis or y-axis, depending on what type of data is in an axis.
  4. Click Sort > Custom.

What to do next

If you want to remove a custom sort, Ctrl+click the axis label, click the sort icon, and select an option other than Custom from the list. For example, select Sort ascending.
