Actions that prompt a Constrained Calculation

With Constrained Calculations enabled, there are a number of actions that you can use to prompt a calculation. This topic outlines the different actions that you can use in IBM® Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel.

From the IBM Planning Analytics ribbon, you can prompt a calculation with Constrained Calculations enabled with any of the following actions:
  • Refresh Sheet
  • Rebuild Sheet
  • Clear Sheet

IBM Planning Analytics context menu

You can access the context menu by right-clicking inside of your report, then clicking IBM Planning Analytics. From the context menu, you can perform any of the following actions to prompt a calculation:

  • Refresh > Refresh selected cells.
  • Refresh > Refresh worksheet.
  • Clear data > Clear selected cells (for Exploration Views, list views, and Quick Reports only).
  • Clear data > Clear worksheet (for Exploration Views, list views, and Quick Reports only).

Data tree

From the Workbook tab in the Task Pane, you can prompt a calculation with Constrained Calculations enabled with any of the following actions:

  • Explorations > Right-click a sheet > Refresh data.
  • Explorations > Right-click a sheet > Clear data.
  • Quick Reports > Right-click a sheet > Refresh data.
  • Quick Reports > Right-click a sheet > Clear data.
  • Dynamic Reports > Right-click a sheet > Refresh.
  • Dynamic Reports > Right-click a sheet > Rebuild.
  • Dynamic Reports > Right-click a sheet > Recreate.

Hot keys

Using hot keys, you can refresh a sheet with Constrained Calculations enabled using any of the following actions:

  • Shift + ALT + 9: Refreshes the sheet and constrains the calculation.
  • Shift + F9: Refreshes the sheet, but only constrains the calculation if you have the Refresh data on Excel recalculation Keys (F9, Shift F9) setting enabled. For more information on this setting, see IBM Planning Analytics settings.
Note: You can also create macros that are linked to a user-defined function that will perform a constrained calculation.
