Rational Functional Tester Starter Edition
Rational® Functional Tester Starter
Edition is a no-charge offering for you to create and debug Web UI tests. There is no data or time
limit to the starter edition. The starter edition contains a subset of the capabilities of the full
version of Rational Functional Tester.
The product bits for the Trial/Full licensed Edition or the Starter Edition is the same. At the
time of the installation of the product, you can choose to install either of the edition.
Note: If
you install the Full licensed edition and are unable to successfully checkout a license at product
startup, the product, by default, will fall back to the starter edition upon user confirmation. A
message confirming to start the product in the starter edition mode or apply license is displayed.
If you are in the trial period of the product, the message to fall back to the starter edition will
be displayed after the trial period expires. Click Cancel to not to fall back
to the starter edition and view the error messages in the Error log view.
Tip: To check whether or not you are in the Starter Edition or Full licensed edition,
see the name at the top banner of the product. A Starter Edition is named
productName – Starter Edition.

Upgrading to Full licensed edition
To upgrade to Rational Functional Tester, purchase either Authorized User License from Passport Advantage or Floating License from IBM Rational Licensing and Download Center and follow these steps:
- Close Rational Functional Tester Starter Edition.
- Start IBM Installation Manager and click Modify.
- Follow the wizard by clicking Next until you reach the page to select features.
- Select the Trial/Full licensed edition check box, click Next, and click Modify.
- Configure your license.
