Installing and uninstalling

This information provides the following topics to help you install and uninstall Service Management Unite and related software prerequisites.

You can use the following two ways to install SMU:
  • Docker installation: If a Docker runtime environment is available, you can use the SMU Docker image provided by IBM to set up the environment.
  • Native installation: Manually install the software prerequisites and the SMU components, while these are already contained in the IBM provided SMU Docker image.

For a native installation, three different methods are available:

    • Root installation: Install the software prerequisites and SMU components in the context of the admin user (root).
    • Non-root installation: Install the software prerequisites and SMU components in the context of the non-root user.

Both the root and non-root installation require an available Window Manager on the server to use the IBM Installation Manager's GUI.

    • Silent installation: If the Window Manager is not available, use the console based method to install the software prerequisites and SMU components.

The following tables guides you to the necessary steps for the different installation methods.
