Installing WML for z/OS base

The WML for z/OS base component contains the runtime environments, integrated systems, and core services for model deployment, scoring, and management. You can install and run WMLz base as a standalone machine learning solution.

Before you begin

Procedure

  1. Locate the SMP/E images, PTFs, and program directories that you already obtained and transferred onto your z/OS system. See Obtaining SMP/E images, program directories, and maintenance packages for WML for z/OS base for details.
  2. Install WMLz base.
    1. Follow instructions in Program Directory for WML for z/OS to install WMLz base.

The SMP/E program installs WMLz base in the default /usr/lpp/IBM/aln/v2r1m0 directory, which is referred as $IML_INSTALL_DIR. The directory structure should look similar to the following example:

    2. Apply all required maintenance packages, including the following PTFs (APARs) that will bring the WML for z/OS code level to v2.2.0.
      • UI70092 (PH25090)
      • UI70093 (PH25088)
      • UI70094 (PH25087)
      • UI70095 (PH25091)
      • UI70096 (PH25093)
      • UI70097 (PH25095)
      • UI70098 (PH25096)

See Prerequisites and maintenance for IBM Machine Learning for z/OS for instructions.

  3. Install IzODA required by WML for z/OS.
    1. Follow instructions in Program Directory for IzODA 1.1 to install Spark (2.4.0 or 2.3.0), Anaconda (3.7.0 or 3.6.0), and optionally MDS (1.1).

Install MDS only if you also plan to install the optional ITOA Db2® anomaly detection solution. See Db2 anomaly detection solution for instructions.

    2. Apply all required maintenance packages, including the following PTFs:
      • UI69709 and UI69713 for Spark
      • UI69675 for Anaconda
      • UI66944 for MDS if you choose to install it.

See Prerequisites and maintenance for IBM Machine Learning for z/OS for instructions.

  4. Verify that SMP/E was successfully executed for all images and PTFs.
