Configuring WML for z/OS scoring services

After you successfully installed and set up WMLz base, it is time to get it ready for use by configuring scoring services. You can create scoring services by using the administration dashboard or the supplied shell scripts.

Before you begin

  • Review the Installation roadmap and make sure that you've completed all preceding tasks in the sequence, including the configuration of <mlz_setup_userid> and the customization of your z/OS system environment as described in Configuring user ID for setting up WML for z/OS base.
  • Decide whether you want to use the administration dashboard or the supplied scripts to configure your scoring services.

The administration dashboard is the preferred configuration method, but in certain cases, you may need to use the interactive shell scripts to create and manage your scoring services.

The WMLz scoring service is powered by the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Liberty Profile for z/OS (WLP), and the service can be standalone or clustered. A clustered scoring service refers to a scoring cluster that consists of multiple scoring instances.

You can create a scoring service to run in an internal or external WLP server. An internal WLP server refers to the instance that is embedded and installed as part of WMLz base, and an external WLP server can be an instance that already exists on your z/OS system or that you will separately install.

Also, you can create the service to run in different server environments. You can configure it to run either locally on the server where WMLz base is installed or remotely on a different server.

Configuration method Capabilities Scoring service type WLP server Deployment server
administration dashboard Create, update, start, stop, delete a scoring service (After creation, the scoring service is automatically registered and becomes immediately available to other services.) Standalone or clustered Internal WLP server Locally on a WMLz base server
Shell scripts (User case 1) Create, update, start, stop, delete a scoring service (After creation, the scoring instance must be manually added to the administration dashboard and then becomes available to other services.) Standalone only Internal WLP server Remotely on a server separate from WMLz base
Shell scripts (User case 2) Create, update, start, stop, delete a scoring service (After creation, the scoring instance must be manually added to the administration dashboard and then becomes available to other services.) Standalone only External WLP server Locally on a WMLz base server or remotely on a server separate from WMLz base
